Borquez

Zachary Borquez has been teaching instrumental music at Oak Park High School since 2013, directing the concert bands, string orchestra, jazz bands, marching band, drumline/colorguard, as well as the pit orchestra for the school musicals. In addition, he also runs the theater tech crew for the drama productions, and serves as chair of the Visual and Performing Arts department at OPHS.

Mr. Borquez serves as a member of the board of directors for the Ventura County Honor Bands, and also guest coaches occasionally with the Conejo Valley Youth Orchestra. He is an active participant in California Band Directors Association, the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association, the California Alliance for Jazz, the California Music Educators Association, and the National Association for Music Education.

Mr. Borquez earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music from the University of California, Davis, and his Master of Music degree in Conducting from California State University, Northridge, studying under Dr. Lawrence Stoffel. A graduate of Quartz Hill High School, Mr. Borquez credits his lifelong love of teaching and music making to his high school band director, fellow Camarillo Community Band member and guest conductor; John McQuilkin!

Mr. Borquez still enjoys playing the trumpet casually as member of the CCB, as well as the Ventura British Brass Band. And, he would like everyone to know how very grateful he is to have been given the opportunity to conduct this wonderful group of musicians!
